It’s all about the Dhawans, it’s all about the hero!
David Dhawan, the man who has given us exemplary comedy films along with the man who is India’s greatest dancer-actor : Govinda. Formulating the same old formula that we’ve seen in Raja Babu, Deewana Mastana, Coolie No.1, Raja Babu, Hero No.1, Haseena Maan Jaayegi, Partner and the list is never ending, David Dhawan comes back with his son this time, in Main Tera Hero. All those people who look for logics and cinematic experiences, don’t even think about going for this film because you’ll end up cribbing about it and you’ll take away the innocence of Seenu and Mr. David Dhawan’s sincere effort.
First of all, Main Tera Hero is not a film that the critics should watch and it shouldn’t be reviewed by any of them because these films don’t have a story, these films don’t have any logic to it. They have a hero who dances, who flirts, who sings and who smacks. You can’t judge such a film, you just can’t, specially when its made by the legend, David Dhawan.
Sreenath Prasad: Seenu (Varun Dhawan) is a brat who doesn’t study, who is really charming and has an amazing body. This brat dances like Prabhudeva, mouths filmy dialogues and fights like a hero.
His mother still pampers him, whereas, his dad keeps pulling his leg and doesn’t really have faith in him.
Yes, typical David Dhawan! How Seenu goes to another city, how he bashes ‘Babbu and his men’ in between (has quite a twist), how he falls in love with this beautiful woman called Sunaina (Illeana D’Cruz) and how his love story is bombarded with complications: Thanks to the short tempered giant Angad (Arunoday Singh), Ayesha (Nargis Fakhri) and Vikrant, Ayesha’s father. (Anupam Kher) That’s what Main Tera Hero’s all about!
The story is plain and simple, it is predictable from the word go, but when it’s a David Dhawan film, it won’t disappoint you like that. The way the situations have been created, the way the characters have been casted and the way Varun Dhawan sinks inside Seenu’s character, it’ll make you smile and laugh at the same time. (Laugh, I don’t mean that in a sarcastic way. 😛 )
The first half starts off quite slowly and has a lot bumpy moments in between, possibly because David sir initially had to establish the lame story.
But, right from the beginning, Varun struck the right chord, he ensured that, even if the dialogues are cheesy and even if the story is dull, he’ll still make you smile. (If not laugh)
The second half belongs to the Dhawans, totally! It will take you back to David sir’s films with Govinda and Salman Khan. The way he creates these situations, it’s magical. Even if you’ve seen these moments before, you’ll still smile and laugh at them, that’s the beauty of this director and his actors.
Illeana D’Cruz looks BEAUTIFUL and she plays her part with perfection. On the other hand, Nargis Fakhri didn’t have that much to do. She looked hot but yes, the way she delivered her ‘confused face’ dialogues, it could really tickle your bones. (She is NOT a bad actor. Watch Madras Cafe!)
Arunoday Singh didn’t really create an impact in the first half but in the second half, when this giant starts behaving like a shy-shy lover boy, he’ll make you laugh crazily. Too good!
It was a treat to watch Rajpal Yadav, Shakti Kapoor, Saurabh Shukla and Anupam Kher together. All these legends who’ve been an integral part of David Dhawan’s career, they just prove their talent and their worth, whenever they come on screen. Kudos!
But, but, but! The entire film belongs to Kjo’s student and David sir’s son: Varun! He is the superstar our generation needed. The exact mixture of Salman Khan and Govinda! He is Seenu and from the beginning of the film, till the end, he won’t ever let you down. He makes the predictability and the bumpy script enjoyable. He gives life to the dull moments and the cheesy dialogues!
Some dialogues and situations are genuinely funny, Milap Zaveri deserves a hand for that!
The music is bang on, with Palat leading from the front. All the songs are amazing and fit the film perfectly. Thank god Sajid-Wajid are back!
David Dhawan and Varun Dhawan, they create the magic. Or I’d say, they ‘recreate’ the magic and honestly, Main Tera Hero deserves a watch, just for the Dhawans! Again, people who love artistic films and people who look for logic in every film, don’t go for this film. The other critics say: “Leave your brains at home and then go for Main Tera Hero.” But I’d say, screw such lame people, you can’t leave your brain at home. IF you want to laugh and have a good time, then book your tickets, right away!
KJO, your third student too, passed with flying colours.
